Support the development of /e/OS & Murena!

Since 2017, when I announced that I wanted to “Leave Apple & Google”, the /e/OS project has done tremendous progresses: we have succeeded to design and release a modern and realistically usable operating system and cloud services that protect their users from permanent personal data collection and from surveillance capitalism…

/e/OS can be installed on more than 250 different smartphones, and we have succeeded to bring it to long awaited devices such as the Fairphone 3 and Fairphone 4, among others.

We have introduced unique features, such as the “Advanced Privacy” module, that informs /e/OS’ users about trackers and ads triggered by mobile applications and websites, and cut them in real time. Advanced Privacy can even fake one’s geolocation or… IP address, to stay under the radar.

/e/OS’ app store “App Lounge” is now able to serve any mobile application, and we have considerably improved application compatibility, in particular on “Official devices”, the one that can be purchased under our new brand “Murena”.

This is really a great achievement and /e/OS has become a top choice on the “privacy smartphone market”, now used by dozen thousands users in the world. And /e/OS even received academic recognition from researchers at the University of Edinburgh and Trinity College of Dublin.

However, the project needs YOUR continued support: we are already working on new features, such as easy-to-use End-to-End encryption for /e/OS’ users documents, offline Voice Recognition, smart assistant, a better camera application, a better Maps application, more tablets supported…

We would also like to improve the support of “Community” devices: for instance today, we haven’t found enough resources to port to all the Community devices the work we have done on improving apps compatibility because at some point it’s a device-specific work. This means that on Community devices, fewer apps will work than on Official devices, and we would like to change this!

This requires a lot of talented software engineers to work on all those topics: we need to grow our engineering team!

Today, with more than 50,000 people using our products, giving 5€ / $5 / £5 per month would let us hire many new developers to improve the product for the benefit of all since it’s open source.

We are often asked about the best way to donate to the project: the best way is the one you are confortable with! However recurring monthly donations are the best way to make the project sustainable.
