Recently I decided to change my Murena smartphone because its battery was really dying: I had to recharge several times a day and it was becoming problematic when travelling for business. Unfortunately this model didn’t have a replaceable battery, so it was difficult to change.
Also I thought it was the good time because we had just released the Murena GS6 and GS6 Pro, which seemed to check all the things I wanted to have in a phone. A good opportunity to test it “in real life”, not as a CEO looking at a spec sheet, but as a daily user.
As a side note, it’s also been a great way to test our new /e/OS Backup feature with a real load of data: all my installed apps, settings, accounts… I switched phones in less than an hour, and everything was there. This feature alone changes the experience of replacing a phone.
So it’s now been close to one month that I’ve been using the GS6 Pro as my main device, and I must say that I’m very happy with this phone…
Good specs, and a price that is hard to believe…
Let’s start with what you get: a 6.67″ FHD+ OLED display at 120 Hz with really beautiful colors and a density of 394 ppi (almost 400 pixels per inch: text is perfectly sharp), an octa-core 5G processor, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage on the Pro version, NFC, WiFi 6e, IP68 water resistance. And it’s dual SIM: one Nano SIM plus eSIM support, which is really convenient.

Nice screen, with good density: no visible pixels.
And the price? We currently sell it at murena.com for €339 (GS6, 128 GB) and €399 (GS6 Pro, 256 GB).
This price point is quite unusual for a new Murena 5G device with an OLED 120 Hz display, truly removable battery AND wireless charging AND IP68…
Designed and assembled in Europe
This one matters to me and a lot of us quite a lot: the GS6 series is designed and assembled in Europe, by Gigaset in Germany, and shipped in plastic-free packaging.
Gigaset is a serious company, with a long industrial history and real offices and assembly lines in Germany. I wish we can strengthen our relationship with them in the future, because I believe this is a first great step in the right direction: good hardware assembled in the EU, combined with a pro-privacy and sustainable operating system, /e/OS. European digital sovereignty is not only about software: in the end it’s also about where and how devices will be produced.
The two features I was waiting for: under-display fingerprint and wireless charging
This is the first time I’m able to use an official Murena device that checks all my personal requisites. Two of them in particular:
The under-display fingerprint sensor. It’s fast, it works on the first try, and it’s exactly where your thumb naturally lands when you pick up the phone. I’ve used phones with the fingerprint sensor on the power button and I never liked it: really not convenient in daily use because the device will unlock not on purpose too easily, just by handling the phone. On-screen is simply the right place for it, and honestly once you get used to unlocking your phone this way, you don’t want to go back.

Unlocking with onscreen finger sensor.
Wireless charging. I can just put the phone on the pad on my desk, and that’s it: super practical and it preserves the USB-C port. After many plug/unplug, non-functioning USB-C port has been the reason I had to replace two other smartphones in the past. Combined with the 5300 mAh battery and the smart battery management of /e/OS (which helps preserve battery lifespan over time), I typically end the day with close to half charge left! Quite a change compared to my previous phone.

Small details that show the hardware was thought through
The buttons are placed where they should be. Power button and volume buttons are on the same edge, well separated, so you never press one by accident while pressing the other. It sounds like a detail, but anyone who ever took an unwanted screenshot when just trying to wake up their screen knows what I mean.

Power and volume buttons, on the same edge.
There is also a dedicated, customizable privacy button on the left side: one physical switch to cut the microphone and camera. A physical control for privacy, which fits perfectly with the /e/OS philosophy.

Privacy button on the left side of the Murena GS6 Pro: it cuts microphone and camera.
And because this is an Official Murena device, the bootloader is locked with our signed /e/OS builds: you get the security level of a stock phone, with none of the Google tracking.
Built to last: what the official EU energy label says
Since 2025, every smartphone sold in the EU must display an official energy label, with standardized tests for battery, durability and repairability. The results are public in the European EPREL database, so you don’t have to take the manufacturer’s word for it. Here is what the official label of the GS6 says:
- Energy efficiency class A (the best class)
- Repairability class A (the best class), with a repairability index of 4.24/5
- Battery endurance per cycle: 55 hours. This is measured with a standardized EU test reproducing typical real-life usage, so it’s a figure you can trust and compare. 55 hours is an excellent rating: it means more than two days of typical use on a single charge.
- Battery rated for 1,000 charge cycles while keeping at least 80% capacity: at one charge every two days, that’s more than 5 years before the battery drops below 80%. And when it does, you can replace it.
- Free fall reliability class A (the best class): 270 drops without defect
- IP68 water and dust protection, tested at 1.20 m immersion, which is really great!
- Screen scratch resistance of 7 on the Mohs scale
On top of the label:
- Removable 5,300 mAh battery: when the battery ages (and every battery ages), you open the back cover with the small tool provided in the box, and you replace it. No glue, no heat gun, no service center. And this is achieved while keeping IP68 protection and wireless charging, which is a real engineering feat: these three features rarely coexist in one device.
- At least 8 years of /e/OS software support (the EU label already guarantees a minimum of 7 years of updates).
- A public repair manual and spare parts available on our shop.
- A protective cover and a glass screen protector are included in the box.
- 24-month warranty, plus 12 months on the battery.
If my previous phone had a removable battery, I would probably still be using it. That’s exactly the problem this phone solves.
Everyday use: everything just works
Phone calls are clear, WiFi and 5G connectivity are solid, VoLTE and VoWiFi work, NFC works.

The 64 MP main camera takes good pictures: the photos below were taken with the GS6 Pro, straight out of the camera, no editing, during the sun partial ecplipse. One is a crop of the full resolution image, the other is full image with reduced resolution.

And of course it runs /e/OS, our deGoogled Android: no Google trackers, no data harvesting, with App Lounge to install most Android apps, and a Murena Workspace account to sync mail, calendar, contacts, photos and files privately.
The honest downsides
No product is perfect, and I would not be credible if I only listed the good parts:
- The design could be a bit better: a thinner body and slimmer screen borders would make the device more compact for the same screen size. It’s a solid, well-built phone, but not the thinnest one around.
- The processor is fast, but not that fast: it’s perfectly fine for all daily tasks, apps, photos, navigation, video. Where you can feel it’s not a flagship chip is on heavy operations: installing or updating many apps at once, or editing and exporting videos. Nothing blocking, but I have the feeling it could be faster.
For me, none of these two points matters in daily use. And at this price, the trade-off is obvious.
Conclusion
After one month, the Murena GS6 Pro is now my main device, probably for a long time. It’s the first official Murena phone that checks absolutely all my requisites: great screen, removable battery, wireless charging, fast under-display fingerprint sensor, made in Europe, and /e/OS on board.
If you are looking for a Murena privacy-first smartphone with /e/OS, designed and assembled in Europe, built to be repaired rather than replaced, and that costs under €400, I honestly think it’s hard to find better today.
The Murena GS6 and GS6 Pro are available on murena.com from €339.
